21st – 26th Walk Islay Week
No visitor to the Islay leaves without some exploring around our beautiful island on
foot. Walk Islay Week occurs every April, you can join in on various walks where
you will be accompanied by an experienced tour guide that will show you all that
Islay has to offer.
27TH ISLE OF JURA FELL RACE
The Isle of Jura Fell Race is known as one of the toughest and most challenging long distance hill races in
the United Kingdom. All entrants have to find their way through some of the most
extreme terrain on Islay to complete the run! Have you got what it takes?
MAY – JUNE
24TH MAY – 1st JUNE ISLAY FESTIVAL FEIS ILE
Join in the week long celebration of music and celebrations, including ceilidhs, golf, traditional music, Gaelic lessons, bowling and whisky tasting
– you can be assured you will be fully entertained from dusk til dawn.
8TH ISLAY BEACH RUGBY
If you’re a fan of Rugby, then come along and take part (or spectate) in one of the top rugby events on the calendar. Both male and female rugby teams take part in games that are 4 minutes each way with 5 players on each team……be prepared to eat sand!
7TH – 12TH. CANTILENA MUSIC FESTIVAL
There’s no better way to enjoy the beautiful sounds of Islay, from professional musicians to students of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. Be sure you to add this event to your calendar and enjoy listening to musicians who love to play and share their passion with all.
3rd. ARDBEG ISLAY HALF MARATHON
The Islay Half Marathon started in 1986 and involves a 13 mile, 192 yard run from the village of Bowmore on the Isle of Islay out to Islay Airport and back in a circular route. The run takes place amongst some of the most beautiful scenery that you will ever see. It doesn’t matter if your a novice or professional runner, lace up your running shoes and get involved! Or if you’d rather relax, you can watch from the sidelines!
4TH. RIDE OF THE FALLING RAIN
Ride of the Falling Rain is a 100 mile cycle round the roads of Islay, the race
begins and finishes in Bruichladdich. Keen riders of all ages are welcome to
take part with youngsters being under parental supervision. Come along and join in what is sure to be a fun day out.
8TH ISLAY, JURA AND COLONSAY SHOW
With a variety of livestock competitions, gymkhana, dog show, pipe band and children’s amusements the Islay, Jura and Colonsay show is one to add to your calendar. There are also plenty of stalls where you can sample local produce and more!
29th – 1st SEPTEMBER – ISLAY BOOK FESTIVAL
Set against the stunning backdrop of Scotland’s whisky isle, we’re a community led festival with an array of events happening across the island. Originally growing out of a small book club in Port Ellen, our volunteer-run festival, is now part of Islay’s busy annual events calendar and Argyll’s thriving cultural scene
8TH – ISLAY MARATHON
The Islay Marathon will be taking place on Sunday 8th September 2019. The route is fabulous with some great views along the way. Starting in Portnahaven, the route takes you along the length of the Rhinns to Bridgend and then follows the High Road all the way to Port Ellen.
As marathons go, it doesn’t get much better than this.
13th – 15th September, Lagavulin Islay Jazz Festival
If you enjoy jazz music and want to experience one of the most extraordinary contexts for a Jazz Festival then why not come and experience the Lagavulin Islay Jazz Festival.
You can enjoy listening to Scottish and International jazz musicians perform across a variety of venues in Islay.
20TH – 22ND – TASTE ISLAY AND JURA
2019 will be the first year of this exciting new Food, Drink and Foraging Festival across the Isles of Islay and Jura.
The 3-day event will encompass a Saturday market, cookery demonstrations, food tastings and pairings, competitions as well as inspiring special local produce menus for the duration of the event. The event will also offer ‘wild’ and ‘mild’ adventure trips around our islands all with a strong food, drink and foraging theme.
27TH – 29TH – JURA MUSIC FESTIVAL
A weekend of music, dancing, fun and frolics on this beautiful and rugged island.
6000 deer, 200 people and just 1 Music Festival
22ND – 24TH – ISLAY SESSIONS
A wonderful long weekend of musical concerts across Islay.
Enjoy concerts, join one of the workshops or spend an evening at the Port Charlotte Hotel bar listening to informal folk music.
Bring your best foot tapping shoes and even your fiddle!!!
