9th – 14th Walk Islay Week
No visitor to the Islay leaves without some exploring around our beautiful island on
foot. Walk Islay Week occurs every April, you can join in on various walks where
you will be accompanied by an experienced tour guide that will show you all that
Islay has to offer.
5TH – 7TH ISLAY SCOTTISH COUNTRY DANCE WEEKEND
If your a keen dancer or only a beginner then this weekend isn’t to be
missed! The Bowmore Hotel offers up a fine Traditional Ceilidh on Saturday with
The Iain Muir Sound Scottish Dance Band providing the music this year.
27TH ISLE OF JURA FELL RACE
The Isle of Jura Fell Race is known as one of the toughest and most challenging long distance hill races in
the United Kingdom. All entrants have to find their way through some of the most
extreme terrain on Islay to complete the run! Have you got what it takes?
MAY – JUNE
26TH MAY – 3RD JUNE ISLAY FESTIVAL FEIS ILE
Join in the week long celebration of music and celebrations, including ceilidhs, golf, traditional music, Gaelic lessons, bowling and whisky tasting
– you can be assured you will be fully entertained from dusk til dawn.
10TH ISLAY BEACH RUGBY
If your a fan of Rugby, then come along and take part (or spectate) in one of
the top rugby events on the calendar. Both male and female rugby teams take part in games that are 4 minutes each way with 5 players on each team……
be prepared to eat sand!
9TH – 14TH. CANTILENA MUSIC FESTIVAL
There’s no better way to enjoy the beautiful sounds of Islay, from professional musicians
to students of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. Be sure you to add this
event to your calendar and enjoy listening to musicians who love to play and share their passion with all.
22ND – 24TH. JURA MUSIC FESTIVAL
2017 marks the 20th anniversary of Jura Music Festival….. and this weekend promises to be bigger and better than ever before. If you
are a fan of the Scottish traditional music scene, then don’t miss this one! The
weekend begins with a ceilidh on the Friday evening, followed by workshops, live
performances and a concert at the distillery on the Sunday.
5TH. ARDBEG ISLAY HALF MARATHON
If your a keen runner, get signed up for this 20 year old marathon, a 13 mile run that starts in Bowmore and circles its way past
the Islay Airport and back. It doesn’t matter if your a novice or professional
runner, lace up your running shoes and get involved! Or if you’d rather relax,
you can watch from the sidelines!
6TH. RIDE OF THE FALLING RAIN
Ride of the Falling Rain is a 100 mile cycle round the roads of Islay, the race
begins and finishes in Bruichladdich. Keen riders of all ages are welcome to
take part with youngsters being under parental supervision. Come along and join
in what is sure to be a fun day out.
10TH ISLAY, JURA AND COLONSAY SHOW
With a variety of livestock competitions, gymkhana, dog show, pipe band and children’s amusements
the Islay, Jura and Colonsay show is one to add to your calendar. There are also
plenty of stalls where you can sample local produce and more!
15th – 17th September, Lagavulin Islay Jazz Festival
If you enjoy jazz music and want to experience one of the most extraordinary contexts for a Jazz Festival then why not come and experience the Lagavulin Islay Jazz Festival.
You can enjoy listening to Scottish and International jazz musicians perform across a variety of venues in Islay. This year it also marks the 200th anniversary of the worldwide loved Lagavulin whisky
– so don’t miss this one!
